Hi friends! I know a lot of people have questions about how to keep florals alive longer as well as succulents so I am here to give you all the details you need to know. There are 5 basic tips to healthier flower care and 6 basic tips to healthier succulent care. I hope this helps keep your house plants + flowers alive longer and these tips help you better understand what these beauties need to thrive the indoors.
5 Steps to Healthier Flower Care
6 1. Never use scissors to cut the stems on your flowers. Scissors don't have the proper blade to cut your flowers accurately which means they won't get the right amount of water they need. Always use sheers or snips to cut your florals.
2. Always cut your flower stems at an upward angle. This helps the stems to get more water since they are cut at an angle rather than just straight across. This will help your flowers to live longer since they are getting more water to nourish them.
3. This is probably one people will be shocked by - Put your flowers in lukewarm water, NOT cold. Flowers seem to thrive better when they don't have ice cold water running up their stems. Lukewarm water also helps to dissolve the flower food and doesn't leave a powder residue.
4. Re cut the stems and change the water everyday to every other day. Flowers will live longer when they have clear and clean water as well as fresh cut stems.
5. Avoid putting flowers near fruit due to the ethylene gas that ripening fruit can give off. This causes flowers to die quickly because of the gas that is toxic to them and their growth.
6 Steps to Healthier Succulent Care
1. You'll only want to water your succulents every 2 weeks. They don't like to be watered often so keep the watering to a minimal so they don't drown and flood over. Overwatering is the number 1 killer of succulents and is the most common thing people misunderstand about the proper care. A little tip to this is to water your succulents every time you get paid, if you get paid every 2 weeks.
2. When you do water your succulents, you want to soak the whole plant + soil at once. Some people feel they need to spritz their succulent but they just like to be soaked completely so that they can absorb the water over time.
3. Sunlight is essential to succulent care. They love to have about 6 hours of sunlight a day. Keep succulents on the window seal but make sure they don't get more than 6 hours of sunlight in a day or the leaves could burn and fall off.
4. Provide your succulents with a lot of breathing room. They don't like to be confined and they don't grow as healthy and strong when they are surrounded by too many things. Other plants nearby are okay, just make sure there is enough space in between them so they each have their own area to grow.
5. Pull the dead leaves off of your succulent when they arise. This doesn't mean your whole plant is dying but they will let some leaves go. Pulling them off gives the other leaves the opportunity to grow and branch out.
6. Succulents like to have containers/vases with holes in the bottom. This gives the succulent some air and helps the plant to breathe better.
